Hart Leisure Centre has reason to celebrate following its colossal Zumba dance event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and a local foodbank in time for Christmas.
An impressive 72 people turned up to take part in the high energy workout, followed by a charity raffle. In total, £1,171 was raised for Macmillan and the centre also received a large amount of donations for Hart Foodbank.
This is the third year running the centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Hart District Council, has hosted the special Zumba event.
Luke Charlton, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re overwhelmed with the amount of support we’ve received for this event. Not only did we raise over a thousand pounds for Macmillan, but people were also so generous with their donations to the foodbank.
“We’d also like to say a special thank-you to our instructors who gave up their time for free to run these sessions. It’s great to see the local community come together to keep fit and have fun whilst supporting two very worthy causes.”
Councillor James Radley, Deputy Leader of Hart District Council, said: “I’d like to thank everyone involved for raising money and donating for such excellent causes. It is real proof of Hart’s community spirit, not just this year but at similar events in the past. Such events show that it is possible to have fun while helping these very worthwhile charities.”
Everyone Active started a new two-year partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in August this year. It has pledged to raise £140,000 for the charity during this time, which would be enough to fund two Macmillan professionals for the whole year, enabling them to provide support to more than 500 patients.
