We use our cameras to:
- help reduce crime and promote public safety
- help the police and our officers respond to risks and incidents of crime and antisocial behaviour, and, where possible, prevent them from escalating
- provide evidence to help prosecute offenders
- help protect people and places
- provide reassurance to town centre visitors
- support local businesses to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour through the Pub Watch scheme
They are operated by a strict CCTV code of practice.
Requesting new cameras
Before any new CCTV is put in place, we need to ensure there is a legitimate reason for it, which is proportionate, effective and complies with relevant legal obligations. To achieve this, the Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner requests a self-assessment-tool is completed to ensure the surveillance camera code of practice is met.
Once the tool has been completed, please send to communitysafety@hart.gov.uk for review and consideration before any installation is arranged. Please also be aware, dependent upon the impact of privacy, a public consultation may also be required.
