Volunteering

Working with us as a volunteer is a great way to get outside and socialise

Our countryside rangers run regular volunteer activities on our managed parks across the district. Most of our sites are internationally or nationally recognised for their wildlife.

Tasks take place across a variety of habitats, including heathlands, reedbeds, wetlands and grassland.

We have a mixture of different volunteering roles available, including:

Volunteer tasks are very relaxed and a great way to get outside and socialise, whilst also helping the community and improving your own health and wellbeing. You can stay for as long as you wish and take part in as much of the task as you can.

We can help with corporate groups too. Go to the section on team days below for more information.

Register

You can fully register as a volunteer straight away or take part in a taster day to get you started. Everybody is welcome, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Once you have registered you will be sent a timetable, you can join any of the task dates that best suit you. The taster session will give you the chance to get a feel for volunteering and to meet some of our existing volunteers and staff. On this day you can observe or get stuck right in, no pressure!

What to do after your taster day

If you enjoyed the taster session and would like to join our volunteer team, you can become a fully registered volunteer.

If you decide volunteering is not for you, that’s absolutely fine. If we do not hear from you within two weeks of your taster day, we will remove your contact details from our records. If you change your mind at a later date, you can always re-register.

Organise a team or group day

We welcome teams of corporate and groups like Scouts or Guides to join our rangers in undertaking conservation management. It’s a great opportunity to team build.

The bulk of the work takes place between October and March. This is to protect wildlife, so we don't disturb them in the months they are most active.

Don’t forget to bring your lunch and marshmallows for the fire!
