Safety for public events

Safety advisory group

The safety advisory group provides advice and guidance to help event planners and organisers stage their events. It helps them understand their responsibilities and those of anyone else involved.

It includes Council representatives, emergency services and other relevant organisations.

It is purely an advisory body and cannot directly prevent an event from taking place. However, agencies that are members of the safety advisory group may have regulatory powers.

When to submit an application

You should apply to the safety advisory group if you think your event might present a significant public safety risk. This might be due to the number of people expected to attend, the nature of the event and/or where you are planning to hold it.

Small events such as village fetes, where large numbers are not expected, or routine events, need not go to the safety advisory group.
