Buyer found for historic Swan Inn

The Swan Inn at North Warnborough, that was put on the market in March 2023, has reached an exciting milestone as contracts have been exchanged with a buyer committed to preserving the unique character of this listed building.

The Council stepped in several years ago to protect and preserve the property as the organisation of last resort, after being allowed to take this neglected and seriously fire-damaged building into public ownership.  Overall, the exercise has been approximately cost-neutral for the Council.

The buyer is required to submit a comprehensive planning application to Hart District Council, which will be reviewed by the Development Management Committee. This will be accompanied by historical and heritage statements, ensuring that the plans for a proposed residential development align with sustainability standards and respect the listed status by incorporating as much of the existing building materials and features as possible.

Daryl Phillips, Chief Executive of Hart District Council said: “We are delighted to have found a buyer who recognises the importance of the Swan Inn’s heritage and is dedicated to enhancing its unique character. This sale marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the property, and we look forward to seeing how the development progresses.”

Further details on the proposed planning application, as well as opportunities for public engagement and input, will be made available once the application is submitted to the Council.
