Hart District Council has awarded £19,000 to local community and voluntary organisations, helping them tackle climate change and reduce district emissions.

Through their climate change community grants scheme, £5,000 each will go to Hook Halls Charitable Association and Winchfield Village Hall, to enable the installation of solar panels on community halls.

Fleet Repair Cafe has been awarded over £4,000 to help them further develop the scheme from the current pilot. This will allow more residents to access the repair services provided at the community events.

In addition to the grants awarded, further funding of £5,000 will go to Hart Voluntary Action to help them set up a community eco-hub in Hart Shopping Centre, Fleet. The eco-hub will be a space where local people can sign-up as volunteers and support climate change initiatives across Hart.

Councillor Richard Quarterman, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change said “We are delighted to award these grants to help tackle the ever-growing problem of climate change.

“The response from local organisations demonstrates the desire of Hart’s community to support our aim of being a carbon neutral district by 2040. We look forward to seeing how these projects develop and hope they inspire others to consider how they can reduce their carbon emissions.”

All these grants will reduce the amount of emissions for Hart, either through the reduction of items going to landfill or by reducing the energy demand of buildings.
