From March, the access road and car park at Fleet Pond will be closed for approximately three months whilst major improvements take place.
The work is part of Hart District Council’s Fleet Pond Corridor project, which is currently seeing extensive work to widen the northern path between Fleet Pond and the Train station.
The Council expects the access road and car park to be closed until June. During this time there will be no pedestrian or vehicle access and no car parking in this area until work is completed.
Cllr David Neighbour, Leader of Hart District Council said: “These works will enhance the existing facilities which are already provided at Fleet Pond, with the addition of extra environmental enhancements. An example of this is new grass matting to encourage connectivity across the site’s car park for the important insects that rely on this vital Nature Reserve.
“For the duration of the works the whole area, starting from the bridge just off the A3013, will be closed. There will be no access over the bridge for pedestrians and vehicles. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause.”
The Fleet Pond Corridor builds on work already completed to increase cycle parking provisions at the train station. It will also link into the Council’s wider Green Grid project to connect communities together.
This project is generously supported by local developers, Enterprise M3 LEP and South Western Railway.
The council is reminding users of Fleet Pond that circular walks on established paths can be found at Bramshot Farm Country Park which is just a short distance from Fleet Pond. Under 3mins in the car and around 10-15minutes on foot.
