Christmas 2023

Find any changes to the waste and recycling services that may affect you over the Christmas period

Excess waste

We'll collect extra waste on the first collection after Christmas. You can leave excess cardboard next to your bin at any time as long as it is flattened, clean, dry and loose.

We provide glass collection crates free of charge for kerbside collection of glass. You can request multiple crates and leave these out for collection if needed.

What can you recycle from Christmas?

Please don't put shredded paper in your recycling bin. We will take greetings cards and gift tags in recycling but only if these don't have glitter on, and please remove any sticky tape or ribbon. Also please make sure cards containing batteries don't end up in the bin.

Wrapping paper cannot be recycled, unless it is plain brown paper. Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver-coloured shapes, glitter, and plastics, which cannot be recycled.

Garden waste

There will be no garden waste collections from Monday 25 December to Friday 5 January.

Please put your garden waste out on your normal collection day, not the amended waste collection day, from Monday 8 January.

Christmas tree recycling

If you have a real Christmas tree and subscribe to our garden waste collection service, you can leave this out for recycling with your green waste collection when this restarts in January.

If you don't subscribe to the garden waste collection service we have seven free Christmas tree recycling points across the district. These will be available from Tuesday 2 January to Sunday 28 January 2024 and are located:

  • Blackwater – Memorial Hall, Hawley Green (in car park at rear)
  • Crondall – Bowling Alley (on grass opposite junction with Pankridge Street)
  • Ewshot – Village Hall, Tadpole Lane
  • Fleet – Church Road Car Park
  • Hook – Crossway Manor Car Park, Reading Road (opposite the White Hart Pub)
  • Odiham – Colt Hill (in lay-by at very end of London Road)
  • Yateley – Town Council Offices, Reading Road

These points are for real Christmas trees only. Please don’t take artificial trees, decorations, or trees over 1.8 m (they can be cut in half).
