Healthcare waste
We provide a dedicated service for healthcare waste for those with ongoing treatment or post-operative care
Sharps boxes and clinical waste collections
This is a free service to collect clinical waste and sharp instruments and dispose of these safely. Healthcare waste must not be put in with normal household waste.
What healthcare items we collect
- sharp instruments: we provide yellow sharps boxes for items such as needles and scalpels
- clinical waste: we provide orange sacks for infectious or potentially infectious soft clinical waste contaminated with blood/bodily fluids - these include dressings, swabs, wipes, gloves, gowns, masks, aprons, and blood bags
Incontinence waste
Should your condition mean you produce incontinence waste this should be placed in your black bin. If you need a larger or additional bin to accommodate this waste, please fill in an additional bin capacity application form:
How to arrange collections
Your GP or other healthcare professional will have a healthcare waste referral form which they must complete and submit to us at clinical@basingstoke.gov.uk .
When we have received this we will contact you to let you know how the process works and provide you with the necessary containers.
If you have any questions, please contact us by emailing hartcontactcentre@basingstoke.gov.uk or by phoning 01252 622122.
