Communications and reporting
Understanding how to collect data and raise awareness of carbon emissions to residents and other stakeholders
The Council collects information to help it better understand how to cut its carbon footprint.
We are working to improve how we collect the climate-related emissions data and how we report and monitor it. For example, building energy use, countryside tools and machinery versus fossil fuel use and waste collection in buildings.
Our staff
The Council recognises that raising resident awareness about climate change is just the beginning. To drive profound change, we need to ensure that our staff are knowledgeable, engaged and empowered to integrate climate considerations into their daily work.
To help them do this, staff have been offered bespoke training sessions that will equip them with the knowledge and skills to make climate-informed decisions and identify opportunities to reduce carbon impacts within their specific roles. For example, our facilities team work hard to educate colleagues about the correct use of recycling facilities at our office.
Collaborative working
We work with colleagues and other organisations, including other councils, to look at how climate change can impact the delivery of council services, this will help us develop a climate adaption strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement Group
The Hart Climate Emergency Engagement Group (HCEEG) includes representatives from parish and town councils, environmental, faith and local voluntary organisations and has meets quarterly. The meetings are an opportunity to discuss local issues around climate change that affect residents in the district.
Topics include home energy grants, decarbonisation of council-owned buildings and information on retrofitting homes (retrofitting is the process of making improvements to a home, so that it becomes more energy efficient with lower emissions).
