Council buildings and energy

Initial focus is on insulation and solar power and creating decarbonisation reports on buildings

Buildings

We are taking a fabric-first approach to upgrading our buildings. This means making sure that they are insulated and double-glazed to modern standards before upgrading heating systems.

Council buildings that aren’t insulated to these standards can’t benefit fully from low-carbon heating, such as heat pumps.

Energy

Solar panels were installed at the Civic Centre in early 2022. They should generate as much as 57,000kWh of electricity a year, enough to power 20 average homes each year.

They’ll save 11.5 tonnes of CO2 per year. That’s like stopping enough greenhouse gases to fill over 11 hot air balloons.

Leisure centres in Hart will also get more solar panels under the action plan.
