We've installed electric charge points and LED lighting in our car parks and our waste collection vehicles are powered by vegetable oil
Going electric
The Council has installed electric vehicle charge points at a number of Hart-owned car parks. Car parks include Church Road and Victoria Road in Fleet, Crossways Manor and The Bury in Hook and Deer Park View in Odiham. They are also in the car park at the Civic Centre in Fleet - this allows us to charge council vans onsite and offer the service to motorists.
Two vehicles in the Council's fleet have been replaced with electric vehicles. Meanwhile, rubbish and recycling bin collections are set to get ‘greener’.
Waste and recycling collection trucks for will be powered by hydrogenated vegetable oil as a low-carbon biofuel. With emissions up to 98% lower than diesel, using conversion figures provided by Government, the biofuel will make significant cuts to our carbon footprint.
Light work
We have upgraded the lighting in some of our car parks to energy-efficient LED lighting.
This should reduce energy use by about 50-60% and be cheaper to maintain. The new LEDs should last 20+ years, compared to the three to four years for the old high-pressure sodium lights.
The car parks with new LED lighting are:

Station Approach, Blackwater
-

-

-
