Allergen guidance and training
You must provide allergen information if you run a food business in the retail and catering sectors. You must also follow labelling rules, as set out in food law.
This means food businesses must:
- give customers allergen information for both prepacked and non-prepacked food and drink.
- handle and manage food allergens effectively in food preparation.
Food businesses must ensure that staff receive training on allergens.

There is also an allergen checklist with tips on food allergy best practice.
There is separate guidance on allergen food labelling guidance for food manufacturers and allergen guidance for institutional caterers.
